Picture Frames

A fun and easy way for kids to make colourful picture frames from popsicle sticks. With the help of an adult, use a hot glue gun or project glue – just give it time to dry after attaching each part. These photo frames make a very special gift for Mom on Mother’s Day or Dad on Father’s Day, or a great craft activity for birthday parties!

Use unpainted popsicle sticks if you want to cover the entire frame with paint and decorations, or use coloured sticks and attach a few interesting decorations. You can glue on some craft foam, fabric or felt cut-outs, buttons, pom-poms or sequins. You can also use natural materials such as sand, dried flowers, twigs, shells. The list is endless! Choose a favourite photo or picture to put in the frame. Attach a ribbon or string, or two magnets (fridge magnets) to the back of your picture frame. When the whole project is finished, allow the frame to dry completely.

MATERIALS YOU NEED

20 Coloured (or unpainted) Popsicle Sticks.
Decorations.
Scissors.
Ruler & Pencil.
Photo/Picture (8x8cm).
Hot Glue Gun or Project Glue.
Ribbon/String or 2 Magnets.

WHAT TO DO

Lay down 11 coloured popsicle sticks, all touching each other lengthwise. Leave like that.
Put glue across 3 popsicle sticks. Place one popsicle stick across the top of your 11 popsicle sticks, one in the middle, and one across the bottom. These are at the back of your frame to hold it together, and will not show.
Wait until dry.
Flip over your frame.
Cut your picture/photo (8x8cm) to fit, and place it in the centre of the popsicle sticks.
Put glue across 6 popsicle sticks. Place 1 down across the top of your photo, so that it is glued onto both the photo and the popsicle stick background. Place the other popsicle stick so that it is across the bottom of your photo, again so that it is glued onto the photo and the background. (To hold your photo in place).
Put glue on the ends of the 2 popsicle sticks you just glued down. Place two popsicles down on each side of the picture. They must connect the top and bottom popsicle sticks to form a frame around the picture. Let it dry.
Now decorate your frame as you please, and wait until dry.
Attach a ribbon to the back of your frame to hang, or attach a magnet or two and use as a fridge magnet.
